Bring down supplies!

Many airlines allow for humanitarian goods to be brought down when you come down on vacation for FREE.  There is a list of items below that will give you an idea of things we will need to help keep costs down.

  • Westjet allows up to 100 lbs per person for free.
  • Air Transat will give waivers and the only limit is what you are willing to bring!  For an Air Transat waiver, you will need to contact us directly with your full name, confirmation number and amount you are willing to bring down so we can arrange for the waiver.  It cannot be done through their call center as this is a special program and needs to be done through our contact person.
  • Air Canada has been known to also allow for humanitarian goods, but the person flying needs to email head office to request it.

The less we need to buy, the better we can provide services to the public! Spay and neuter IS key to curbing the overpopulation of street dogs and pets.  Your donations can not only help us to lower the cost drastically, but also empower us to pick up strays and TNR them (Trap neuter release).

Items We Will Always Need

Surgical Clinical Items

  • Surgical drape or surgical gowns (we cut gowns and make our own drape)
  • Sterile pouches (envelopes) for packing drape and gauze into to be sterilized for surgeries.
  • Syringes 1 ml and 3 ml with 22 gauge to 24 gauge needles
  • Surgical gloves sizes 6.5 to 8
  • Examination gloves sizes medium and large
  • Cold sterile – chlorhexidine
  • Surgical masks
  • Sleeves of 4×4 gauze
  • Intubation tubes sizes 3 to 8.5 (with the bulb working)
  • Catheters 20 gauge to 24 gauge
  • Tape
  • Suture – suture material is REALLY important to lower the costs.  We can only use the best absorbable suture as many of these dogs do go back to dirt floors.  The suture we need is pds/monocryl 0 to 3-0.  We can use braided vicryl, (same sizes) but only internally as the braided suture can trap in dirt and increase the chances of infection. Reels are also excellent as we can swag our own suture onto syringe needles.  Expired suture is accepted!!!

Non Surgical Items

  • Collars and leashes all sizes
  • Food and water bowls
  • Eye drop lubricant for cats
  • Collapsible wire crates all sizes
  • Transport crates sizes medium to extra large
  • Bathing mitts
  • Shampoos
  • Flea and tick meds
  • Heartworm medication
  • Dewormer
  • Towels, blankets, bedsheets, pillow cases, old bath mats
  • Dog shirts and sweaters
  • Dog nail clippers
  • Clippers!  We are always in need of professional clippers for prepping dogs for surgery and for shaving down the really matted dogs whose owners can’t afford grooming services.
  • Tie-out cables.  This is a pretty controversial thing back home, but down here, many dogs are tied up on 2 foot chains with no room to move.  We want to be able to replace these short heavy chains with 20’ tie out cables and a beautiful collar.  It IS safer for the animals here to be tied up, but we will work to educate the communities that a 2 foot chain padlocked around a dog’s neck is just not the way to do it!  These tie out cables can be found at the dollar store and we want to be able to provide them for free!
